2014 Cannondale Scalpel 29er 3 Review

The Scalpel 3 is the most sophisticated full suspension cross-country bike in the world and is designed for XC racers and frequent riders who are looking for the kick when it gets hard.

The Cannondale Scalpel 29 3 is a truly striking appearance by its organically flowing and massive tubes. While maintaining a lightweight chassis, Cannondale engineers put a huge emphasis on frame stiffness. Every aspect of the frame, be it the pivots, the tubes, or junctions — even down to the component — follow that objective. Weight and riding fun come in closely behind.

It is made of SmartFormed 6061 aluminum alloy and heat-treated to a T6 hardness for strength and durability. The shape optimized tubing helps reducing weight and increasing strength. The trademark double-pass smooth weld technology eliminates the stress-risers and weak points found on traditionally welded frames. In terms of geometry the bike has some short chain stays to provide more agile handling, better traction at the rear wheel, and unbeaten climbing skills. It shares the identical geometry and rider position as the F29 to make the transition between hard tail and full suspension seamless for the racers.

For stiffness Cannondale is going for high tech, from huge diameter organic shapes to an X-12 rear
axle (142mm x 12mm). The ECS-TC System stands for a clamped, 15 mm thru axle in the shock linkage and swingarm pivot, as well as double bearings at the rear dropouts. That eliminates flex and provides unmatched center-stiffness for complete control. Scalpel achieves levels of light weight and efficiency unheard of with System Integration design. Cannondale designs components to work together, like the Lefty Hybrid fork and Si Stem/Steerer.

High end SRAM 2x10 shifting components underline the standard of this XC machine. Magura MT2 disc brakes guarantee control in every situation and stop the bike immediately whenever needed.

Thanks to the OPI (One Piece Integratoin) and construction of the upside-down dual crown design the Lefty Hybrid XLR is a super light and super stiff suspension unit. It offers 100mm air suspension, a lockout and adjustable rebound dampening. The fork comes with an integrated plain bearing with upstream sealing, making the former Lefty folding bellows superflous.
Hence the name Lefty Hybrid. A combination of superior needle bearing technology and the plain bearings. In contrast to the plain bearings of the competition here a very low-friction guidance of the linear spring movement is achieved. That means that the fork does not have to overcome static friction during superhard brakes, shocks and heavy steering effort.

2014 Cannondale F29 Carbon 3 Review

Cannondale's F29 3 is a light, efficient race bike for cross-country racers or trail riders who want to have lots of fun on fast, flowing trails.

Constructed of Cannondale's proprietary BallisTec Carbon, the F29 Carbon shares much of its DNA with Cannondale's high-end road offerings. This material uses high-strength, impact resistant fibers and resins along with strands of stiffer, more brittle fibers that run continuously from front to rear to fine-tune the ride quality.

Cannondale also worked to make the bike vertically compliant to take the edge off of stinging hits on the trail. The rear end uses Cannondale's Speed SAVE design, created by oval-shaped sections of the round seat stays and chainstays that allow them to flex slightly. This same technology is integrated into the seat tube and is further aided by the small-diameter, 27.2 millimeter seatpost.


Many entry-level carbon fiber bikes are downright uncomfortable... Cannondale takes a different approach. They offer a technologically advanced frame with a more modest parts package to control the price. The F29 is a bike that you can certainly race or trail ride right out of the box, but also feel good about upgrading to higher-quality components later.

2014 Cannondale Trail and Trail SL Bikes Are Packed Full Of Features

2014 Cannondale Trail SL 29 SS: Proof That A Great Riding, Long Lasting Bike Doesn't Have To Break The Bank

After years of racing on the World Cup, Cannondale has trickled features down from it's high-end bike models all the way to the Trail and Trail SL bikes. Available in both 26" and 29" models, there is a Trail for every rider.

The frame and fork are both alloy and are finished in a way that surpasses expectations at this price point. Instead of using horizontal dropouts to keep the correct tension, the Trail SL frame instead uses an eccentric bottom bracket.

2014 Cannondale CAAD10 - The One, The Only, The TEN

The Legendary CAAD10 Needs No Introduction. 

Lighter, stiffer and smoother than many of its carbon competitors, it is simply the world's finest aluminum road racing machine.

The CAAD10 boasts the most sophisticated, highest performance aluminum race bike ever made. Its geometry is virtually identical to the SuperSix EVO for razor-sharp cornering and aggressive race positioning.

Its SmartFormed 6069 frame weighs just 1150 grams, and relies on the most advanced aluminum manufacturing in the world. A complex mix of hydroforming, mechanical shaping, taper-butting, double-pass smooth welding and heat treating produce a frame that is both lighter and stronger.

The stays have been designed in SPEED SAVE format, with a flattened shape and internal butting adding to vertical flex, yet keeping lateral and torsional stiffness. This lets the rear wheel track the ground, improving speed, cornering, grip and comfort.

Alan from Finish Line Bikes in Bakersfield, California is here once again to show off one of the most unique bikes you have ever seen. The 2014 Cannondale Bad Boy 9 is more than just an urban bike.

The main difference in design for the 2014 Bad Boy when compared with other bikes is the front fork. Cannondale calls it their "lefty" - and as you can see it only has a fork on the left side of the bike. It's not a suspension fork, but it does look awesome. Aside from looking awesome, it could be said that the lefty fork gives you a bit of extra room in urban riding situations, as well as helping the bike shed some weight as the fork uses about half of the usual amount of material.

On the handlebar/stem system, Cannondale included a built in front light feature that has a few settings. Obviously off and on, as well as two different blink settings. The brakes are hydraulic disc which is extremely easy to use (as little as one finger!). The nice thing about the brakes is that even if your are commuting in the rain, these disc brakes will perform much better than their mechanical counterparts (in muddy conditions too!)

The Shimano Altus 9-speed provides the shifting — one finger clicking the "top" part of the shifter makes it shift to higher gears, and your thumb controls the downward shift around the "bottom" of the handlebar grip. Cannondale included all internally routed brake and shifter cables as well, which is a nice touch to keep the components clean, and the bike looking that way as well!

If we go to the back of the bike you will see the Shimano Deore rear derailleur which works extremely well (9 cogs in back, 3 chainrings upfront) for a 27 speed bicycle.

This bike is a great all-around bike to ride. It's great for commuting, exercising, or just riding around the town.

Cannondale Brings Amazing Comfort to A Speedy Lightweight Endurance Frame

Alan from Finish Line brings you another great 2014 Bike: The Cannondale Synapse Carbon Hi-Mod

The Synapse is an endurance road bike, meaning it is a road bike that has extra comfort features built in for longer days in the saddle.

One of the new designs for 2014 is called the Power Pyramid. The seat tube is divided at the bottom into the bottom bracket area. Cannondale originally designed the BB30, and on this model they have used the BB30A, which is slightly wider. You will experience a lot more comfort as a result of this feature.

Moving to the rear triangle, they have included a system called Save Plus. This means that the seat stays and chain stays have been designed to dampen the road vibration which again translates into greater comfort in the saddle.

This bike is equipped with Shimano 105: ten gears in the back and a 50/34 compact crank. You will still get the same high and low as a triple chainring, but without some of the overlap that comes with it. Shimano 105 shifters use the full brake setup to shift into lower gears, and a smaller lever on the brake lever to shift into higher gears.

The cables are routed internally behind the tapered headtube which makes for a nice clean look. The bike is designed for comfort, but still has very high performance characteristics.
