VIDEO REVIEW | 2014 Cannondale Synapse Carbon Hi-MOD | Finish Line Bikes

Cannondale Brings Amazing Comfort to A Speedy Lightweight Endurance Frame

Alan from Finish Line brings you another great 2014 Bike: The Cannondale Synapse Carbon Hi-Mod

The Synapse is an endurance road bike, meaning it is a road bike that has extra comfort features built in for longer days in the saddle.
One of the new designs for 2014 is called the Power Pyramid. The seat tube is divided at the bottom into the bottom bracket area. Cannondale originally designed the BB30, and on this model they have used the BB30A, which is slightly wider. You will experience a lot more comfort as a result of this feature.

Moving to the rear triangle, they have included a system called Save Plus. This means that the seat stays and chain stays have been designed to dampen the road vibration which again translates into greater comfort in the saddle.

This bike is equipped with Shimano 105: ten gears in the back and a 50/34 compact crank. You will still get the same high and low as a triple chainring, but without some of the overlap that comes with it. Shimano 105 shifters use the full brake setup to shift into lower gears, and a smaller lever on the brake lever to shift into higher gears.

The cables are routed internally behind the tapered headtube which makes for a nice clean look. The bike is designed for comfort, but still has very high performance characteristics.

Come on over to Finish Line Bikes in Bakersfield. We'd love to show you our entire collection of bikes from road, to mountain, to comfort and more! Take a test ride of your favorite bike, or just come by and get to know us!

Other comfort features include a stem that can be adjusted forward or backward, flat comfort grips that shift by twisting, and front end suspension that will serve you well both on and off-road. It also has a lockout feature so that you can stiffen the shock for climbing, or loosen it to eat up a bit more of the bumps in the road.

[VIDEO REVIEW] 2014 Giant Talon 4 With A 27.5" Wheel Diameter

The Talon 4 is a new design on the market which is getting lots of attention!

The great feature about this bike is the 27.5" wheel diameter. We think that the 27.5 is the wheel diameter of the future. This gives you some of the beefy rollover characteristics of a 29er, but keeping the steering tight, quicker acceleration, and is a weight saving of 2 pounds!

This model has hydraulic Tektro brakes. They are easy to activate, requiring only two fingers for full stopping power, and are smooth on the deceleration. The 27 speed Shimano Altus shifting is a push and pull system that works extremely well, and it has an Alivio rear derailleur.

The alloy frame is specially designed by Giant with butted tubing and great tube shapes. The front shock is by Suntour, and has a lockout for on the fly adjustment from full suspension to completely locked out.

Fast acceleration, quick handling, yet it rolls like a 29er so you can climb and roll over obstacles, sand, and dirt with comfort and confidence.

Come by Finish Line Bikes to check out this awesome 2014 bike and many many others!

2014 Giant Defy 1 Redefines "Entry-Level" for the Road Bike World

Climbs, Corners, and Sprints Better Than Bikes Costing Thousands More. How?

The 2014 Giant Defy 1 is made from premium lightweight aluminum tubes and is produced in Giant's Own Tubing Facility.

They start by taking a race inspired frame, and they marry it to components that bring comfort and plushness to the ride.

The frame is made of ALUXX SL-grade Aluminum, and the front fork is a carbon composite, OverDrive aluminum steerer. Having this carbon fork and an oversized  steerer make the bike up to 15% stiffer than straight-steerer frame-and-fork combinations.

Add to that a great road groupset in the Shimano 105 shifters, derailleurs, and brake levers; Tektro TK-R540 brakes (w/ cartridge pads). Also on the Defy Advanced 1 are the Shimano Tiagra 12x28 10 speed cassette, and the Shimano FC-R565 50x34 Crankset.

Wheels are a complete package using Giant's proprietary brand on rims (P-R2), bearings (24/28h), and tires (P-R3, 700x23c). The rims are double walled, bearings have sealed hubs, and the wheelset has DT Swiss Competition butted spokes.

The 2013 Giant Defy Advanced 1 received great reviews from Mensfitness.com, saying that it is one of Ten Best Road Bikes For Serious Cyclists: "Giant’s composite technology for bikes is so innovative that they also make parts for aerospace and Formula 1 crafts. The Defy Advanced 1, like all other models, is made in-house, from a strand of carbon fiber thread to a complete bike. It also features Giant’s more upright “endurance position” for maximum comfort regardless of riding style. That means you’ll crush tough climbs, fast sprints, and gruelling miles all on a single trusty steed."

A Bicycle Helmet that Changes Everything. See Invisible Helmet to Believe It

There is no doubt that the bicycle industry has created some beautiful helmets over the years.  The technology and inventiveness of many of these helmets has been like a microcosm of the larger industry, stylish and innovative.  You can see the entire history of the helmet business all the way back to hairnets at ClassicCycleUS.com and this pictorial history.

Troxel TT Helmet - 1997

We all get that cycling is more fun with the wind blowing through our hair, and that helmets, no matter how clever and expensive, are still not something anyone would wear other than to protect brain matter. This might be about to change, or at least to allow for more out-of-the-box thinking.
If you haven’t seen this amazing video yet, we promise you’ll enjoy it. If you guess the end, tell us in the comments. If you think it will work, let us know that, too. What would you be willing to pay for one?

2014 Giant Propel Advanced SL Review

2014 Giant Advanced SL

Giant Bicycles has released their 2014 Propel Advanced SL — claiming that the bike simply, ”makes you faster.”

Propel is a bike that Giant’s engineers have worked on for years; not necessarily trying to make the fastest bike in the world, but a bike that can help make you faster.

What Giant did was take every angle of every tube, the design of the brakes, fork, handlebar, and steering system and design them in such a way that it effectively cuts through the wind. Not just the wind coming directly at you, but the crosswind coming in at different yaw angles.

The Propel Advanced SL uses Giant’s T800 Carbon Fiber strands (which is the highest tensile strength used in any bicycle) to max out the stiffness, while still leaving the ride comfortable so you can ride all day.

All of the Advanced SL models (Propel, TCR, Defy) use an integrated seatpost. This seatpost gives the bike a little more flex for comfort, and ditches a few grams of weight as well.

Giant tested the 2014 Propel Advanced SL against four other brands of bikes in a wind tunnel — each one using as many proprietary components as possible and a “dummy” to simulate the weight of the rider. At 40km/hr (24 or 25 mph) – this bike finished in an hour. The other bikes finished at 12 seconds slower, 34 seconds slower, and the final two bikes at 36 seconds slower.
